On 29 July in the year 1030, the Christian king Olav the Holy was killed at Stiklestad by a spear. The man who speared the king was Tore Hund from Bjarkøy. Hear the tale of the kingslayer as we travel back in time through the island kingdom where it all began.
City sightseeing and ferry
We start our tour in the center of Harstad city center and drive a short drive through the city before driving in the direction of Bjarkøy. To reach the archipelago, we have to cross the fjord by ferry. Enjoy a cup of coffee and fantastic views on a "microcruise" through the fjord.
"Selshevneren" - The spear to Tore Hund
In heavenly surroundings stands the monument which marks that Bjarkøy is still Tore Hund's kingdom. The spear is 15 meters high and we stop to enjoy the view.
Sundsvollsundet nature reserve
On Bjarkøy's northernmost side, we stop to admire a rare sight. Norway's largest Krykkje colony resides on the bird's mountain and makes sure to make a sound. Great colors on the water and a sight out of the ordinary, maybe we see a rare bird?
Røkenes Gård
Enjoy Norway's national cake, the "world's best" Kvæfjord cake, in historic surroundings at Røkenes Gård on the way back to Harstad. A traditional barn that has now been converted into one of the city's finest restaurants.
