Did you know that the Adolf Cannon in Harstad can shoot up to 56 kilometers? This enormous cannon was built by the Germans during World War II to protect the iron ore exports from Narvik – a strategically important point for Nazi Germany. To achieve maximum range, the Germans developed a special high-explosive shell, lighter than regular ammunition. The 600 kg shell could reach all the way to Ofotfjorden with a flight time of 130 seconds.
Today, the Adolf Cannon at Trondenes is one of the world's largest land-based cannons – and a fascinating historical experience for both locals and tourists.
